ONO Shinobu and Bernhard Karlgren over the Chinese classical study

ONO Shinobu and Bernhard Karlgren over the Chinese classical study
In December 1979, I submitted the post-graduate thesis on Japanese Buddhist priest Kukai (774-835)‘s maiden work Sangoshiiki that comparatively considered the three regions, Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. Probably in January 1980, I met with Prof. ONO Shinobu at the corridor of university. He said to me that he read my thesis and my thinking method using at the thesis was resembled in the method of Bernhard Karlgren at his paper “The Authenticity and nature of the Tso Chuan” 1926. He successively talked to me, “TANAKA, did you read the paper?” I promptly answered ” Professor, No.”
My thesis was presented the other prof. who specialist of  the old Buddhism in Japan and probably he sent my thesis to his dear friend ONO. My approach was the study on the appearance frequency distribution of all the expletives appeared in the text.
I knew this famous Sweden sinologist’s name earlier and already bought one of his important work Grammata Setica Recensa, 1957 in the early 1970s at Kaifu Shoten Bookshop in Kanda, Tokyo. But the paper shown by ONO was perfectly unknown at that time. ONO invite me to his study room and handed me the book Saden Shingi Ko” that was the translation of Karlgren’s paper  by ONO and published in 1939 from Bunkyudo Shoten Bookshop at Hongo, Tokyo, which was one of the leading publisher in the field of Chinese classics in 1930s.
ONO was one of the scholar on Chinese literature from Yuan dynasty to the modern China and the member of Chugoku Bungaku Dokokai, Chinese Literature Society in Japan that led the study of modern Chinese literature in Japan from 1940s with his colleagues TAKEUCHI Yoshimi, TAKEDA Taijun and the like. In 1980s he had engaged in the translation of long novel, The Journey to the West in the Ming dynasty all the time of his non-university’s work.
Going back to the past, I received ONO’s lecture ” Chinese literature and Modern Japan” at his study room or dean room, who was the dean of the faculty for humanities department. In my memory he lectured precisely to Japanese novelist ODA Takeo, now not famous recently.
Karlgren’s book was difficult for my talent at that time but somehow  read over and gave back to ONO deeply appreciating his kindness. And some years later in Kanda, Tokyo, I found this Karlgren’s book and bought. The book shop’s name is Yamamoto Shoten, one of the long established Chinese classic book shop in Kanda.  The date is 2 November 1982 by the receipt put in the book.
One day probably in spring 1980, on the train on the way home, I met ONO and told him on his new lecture on Yuanqu, Yuan dynasty’s poems that was frequently said very difficult for modern readers.
I said to him, “Wonderful lecture for excellent undergraduates.” He returned definitely,” Very important to study such a hard work for me still now.”
ONO Shinobu died suddenly by disease in 18 December 1980, age 74. The conversation at the train was the last hearing of this profound scholarship.

The comparison between 2003 and 2017. From Chinese character's meaning structure to Homological algebraic model of language universals 2017

The comparison between 2003 and 2017.
From Chinese character's meaning structure to Homological algebraic model of language universals

1. Between 2003 and 2017
In 2003 I wrote a paper that showed meaning's inner structure of Chinese characters.
The paper was based on Chinese character's old form, Jaguwen, Chinese inscriptions on animal bones and tortoise carapaces that was first found at Henan-sheng, China in 1999. I wrote the paper mainly depending on WANG Guowei's work. My paper is the following.

In this 2017 I wrote a related paper with the 2003's paper, which mainly focused on ideogram's general purpose property from hieroglyph to LATEX symbols. My paper is the next.

2. From philology to algebra
The 2003 paper is on the continuation of Qing Dynasty's classical philologists in China.
The 2017 paper is on the extension of Category theory's homological approach.

3. From intuitive to definitive
The 2003 is not openly used mathematical approach, as a result  writing style is considerably intuitive.
The 2017 is also intuitive, but in its base, more sufficient mathematical data in the 17 year study result. The most recent work is Derived Category Theory. The theory is at the next.

Now the  upper two papers, the 2003 and the 2017 and their related papers are seen at Sekinan Paper and Sekinan Theory.

4. Starting place
The new theory is now being prepared for more mathematical-descriptive expression titled Homology Language.Starting place is at the following papers.

5. Gist of  Homology Language
The fundamental essences are the next.
(1)
Set is defined as Universe which can avoid set theory's contradiction.
(2)
Set is considered as Category which can get back to all the concepts to Object and Morphism.
(3)
Topological space is considered as Homology which can get back all the work to algebra.
(4)
Language model is considered as Sheaf which can past functions to the more big function.
(5)
Language can take Contractible which can describe free concepts as meaning.

6. Aim of Homology Language
(1)
Language will get near to finite generative a little alike natural language.
Fundamental work was done at the next from set theory but not definitive as universe

(2)
Category theory seems to be a one-step-up stage to write on language from the days of Maclane Saunders. Refer to the next.

(3) Homological approach
In 2009 I wrote a trial papers titled Floer Homology Language. Still now the papers are important for my study.

In Floer Homology Language, the next two papers will become the guidepost for new theory Homology Language

(4) Symplectic algebra
Symplectic algebra is one of the most fantastic fields of the contemporary mathematics.
I also ever wrote simple invitational papers for applying to language universals.
The papers are next.
     |
     Gromov-Witten Invariant
    Generating Function
    On Structure
In the papers, The next contains the update result of homological approach.

(5) Bridge to resolve
Relationship between symplectic geometry and derived category shows the realization of clearer description on  language.universals Because for my part, Symplectic Language Theory and Floer Homology Language seems to be the nearest way to resolve the hardship of natural language's inner structure.
The details are the next.

(6) Symmetry

The concept called symmetry is very important to describe the complex situation of natural language.
Symmetry contains undifferentiated factors in itself, for example mirror, distance,ant-world and so forth.
I ever tried to cultivate this fantastic field to resolve the hardship on language universals one more step up.
My trying paper is the following.

Roman Jakobson A short comment on THE SOUND SHAPE OF LANGUAGE by Roman Jakobson & Linda Waugh, 1979

Roman Jakobson
A short comment on  THE SOUND SHAPE OF LANGUAGE by Roman Jakobson & Linda Waugh, 1979

THE SOUND SHAPE OF LANGUAGE by Roman Jakobson & Linda Waugh, 1979 is the indispensable book for the study.
The authors wrote the Preface to The Japanese Edition, 1980 that a matter of primary concern for them was the basic opposition between form and meaning, furthermore there were definite difference and intimate bonding between this related two essential phenomena.
For turning to myself, I already determined the main target on meaning, and sound was put aside, while Jakobson's book  was referred time to time. It  was great teacher for me.

Language and I 2017

Language and I

Sekinan Library has researched on language from 1986 and successively at SRFL from 2003.
Papers and essays that have been  written at Sekinan Library and SRFL Sekinan Research Field of Language
are shown and searched at SRFL Essay and SRFL Paper.
Sekinan Library's main theme is now at language universals that has been a hard target and researched since 1920s at Linguistic Circle of Prague, but the theme had been always put aside from the centre of the study.
In Japan. on Prague School CHINO Eiichi probably first introduced systematically through his direct study experience at Prague between 1958 and 1964.

I first met with him in 1969 at Tokyo, from whom received Russian language lesson at the beginner's small class.
And after some 10 years I again met him in 1979 at his lecture on structural linguistics, to which I listen till till March 1986 when I get apart from the university.

In 1986 I also started to study my own object on language, in  which the main theme  was language universals by mathematical description, surging from Nicolas Bourbaki, that were already applied to wide and deep approach even at human studies at that time.

For me algebraic geometry was the great aid to deepen the theme, to which from 1920s many researchers have recognised one of the most important but hard to operate with clear description at the field of philology.

In 2003 I narrowly wrote up the trial paper on language's characters, at that time not for total language, but I got the steady way to approach the hard target of language's basis mainly on meaning, through which I faintly could see the final target, language universals.

Ideogram and finite generative 2017

Ideogram and finite generative 2017

Ideogram and finite generative

Ideogram and finite generative

TANAKA Akio

1. Ideogram
The 21st century will become the century of ideogram.
The history of ideogram succeeds from Egyptian  hieroglyph to Chinese character.
The reason is below.
a.It is intuitively understandable.
b.It sends big information.
c. It is easy to manage for stability.

2. Set theory
Probably in summer 1977, I was  designing for a paper on the sentence in language. The central part of the paper was connection between words or sentence, in which the logic of  language would be shown using the set theory as a simplified model of true and false. I was strongly influenced from Kurt Godel, Gaishi Takeuchi and Bourbaki. But this design was abandoned for my lack of mathematical basis keeping on.

3. Qing dynasty's linguistics
In 1980s and 1990s I was lost in learning Chinese classical character theory, Xiaoxue, especially Qing dynasty for ideogram's fundamental property. At this period I did not write any paper on language. I solely read WANG Guowei, WANG Yinzhi, DUAN Yucai and Qing dynasty's linguists.

4. Time property in characters
In Autumn 2002 I got pneumonia and was hospitalized about 2 weeks, where I thought of 1970s' dream, writing clear description on language universals by mathematics. The theme was as hard as ever. So, at the bed I thought the basis of language from the side of Chinese character’s classical approach which had vast heritage till Qing dynasty. I directed my attention to the character's figure which had compound meanings containing time elements continuing from Yin dynasty's hieroglyphic characters left on bones and tortoise carapaces some 2400 years ago. I thought that Chinese characters had containing time and its structure could be written by geometric approach once I had abandoned for difficulty. After leaving hospital, I wrote a paper titled On Time Property Inherent in Characters.

5. Quantum elements in language
In 2003 staying at Hakuba, Nagano, I wrote a rial paper on language universals from the viewpoint of physics. This was remained manuscript till now. The title was Manuscript of Quantum Theory for Language for the time being. Because in summer 2003 I wrote the first paper on language universals from physics titles as Quantum Theory for Language which was read at a conference held in winter  2003 of Nara Japan.
5. Finite generative
Language probably begins finite elements and generates its world responding to outer world. I learned the concept of finite generative from von Neumann Algebra at around 2006 and 2007.

THANKS: Thanks to physics about which I ever dreamt in my future

THANKS

Thanks to physics about which I ever dreamt in my future

RI Ko

In the days of high school, I deeply dreamt that someday physics would perfectly write over this world's phenomena by the clearest descriptions. So I longed for studying physics in the future. But I selected language's diverse wideness at the university, from where returning the clear descriptive situation represented by physics needed long and winding road for me.

Now in my mind probably language and physics or mathematics are happily live together constructing the world's one main frame. I wonder why I took so much time to reach here. Long time ago, at least Pascal's days, philosophy and mathematics were both sides of shield for solving the world's hard problems.

It is very appropriate that the fact is solved from every field not being partitioned any artificial walls. Philosophy may be solved by mathematics and mathematics may opened by physical phenomenon.

Now they all became common sense. Only I reached here delaying rather late. I am now situated in tranquil field. Thanks to so many pioneers, especially in mathematics. Also to physics about which I ever dreamt in my future.
